2 Easy Home Made Facial Scrubs:
We are bombarded with beauty care products daily with advertisements on TV, in magazines and on the sides of buses; we can’t seem to get away from them! It’s been my experience that most decent beauty products are rather expensive – high price for high quality. However, when I find my budget for skincare products is a bit tight I prefer homemade solutions that do just as good a job and are very satisfying to create.
There are many natural ingredients with benefits for the skin available in your own kitchen cupboards:
+ Cucumber contains vitamin C and caffeic acid, both of which help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling
+ Mint is widely known for its anti-inflammatory properties and so can help soothe irritations. It also helps to soften and calm dry or itchy skin.
+ Olive oil is an excellent moisturizer as well as containing antioxidants which can fight premature skin-aging symptoms, within reason.
+ The Caffeine in Coffee can help tighten skin and also has antioxidants which can fight premature skin-aging symptoms, within reason.
+ Cacao contains vitamin C and magnesium which helps to protect the skin and keep it healthy.
+ Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer.
So let me share with you 2 simple easy to do homemade facial scrub recipes:
Mint & Cucumber Scrub:
Ingredients: Fresh mint, cucumber, granulated sugar and olive oil.
Method: measure roughly the same volume of sugar and oil depending on the amount you intend to make. Use your own discretion with the cucumber and mint, it depends on the strength and flavour of aroma that works for you. Blend the cucumber, mint and oil together, then stir in the sugar. Store refrigerated in any handy pot and enjoy!
Coconut Mocha Scrub:
Ingredients: Ground coffee, cacao powder, coconut oil, brown sugar, olive oil.
Method: Measure equal amounts of olive oil and coconut oil, then match volume with sugar. Add ground coffee and cacao powder to your preference. Stir ingredients together until thoroughly mixed. Store in a handy pot. You do not have to keep this scrub refrigerated.
Sugar granules are generally more gentle on the skin than salt. Brown sugar is even more gentle than white sugar so an excellent choice if you have sensitive skin. Mixed with the oil, sugar scrubs tend to be more hydrating than salt scrubs, which make them a good match for dry or combination skin. Please note that with both scrubs the oil and sugar will separate, but never fear! It’s nothing a quick mix around can’t fix!
