Model of the Month: Miss Cat B

April 30, 2017

Please introduce yourself:

Cat is a part time model originally from a rural village in the North West of England. To pursue her career she moved to London in her late teens and recently emigrated to the west of France. Her portfolio contains a wide variety of work including bridal, gothic, beauty and fetish. She has appeared in print, catwalk and television; including the Gok Wan show on Channel 4. When Cat is not away exploring her love of other cultures she is a keen horsewoman and enjoys sailing, hiking and the odd bit of knitting.

What made you decide to be a model?

I was approached by a local photographer in a nightclub and the idea went from there. I travelled to Manchester and Liverpool, building up a portfolio before moving to London as most of the work was in the capital.

What's the most enjoyable part of the job?

The part I find most enjoyable is being transformed by talented make-up artists and getting to wear some beautiful couture dresses and outfits that I would never have picked out for myself. Getting to keep some of them afterwards is always an added bonus. I am always eager to see the photos from a shoot after post production!

Is there anything you would change?

I would like to see increased visibility of misrepresentative techniques used in post-production. It promotes unrealistic standards, predominantly for women, and is symptomatic of the male-centric focus of the industry.

While I’m pleased that advertising is moving away from the overtly misogynistic view of women’s roles, I would like to see the change move more quickly.

What are your career highlights?

My career highlights include working for Torture Garden, Bondinage Latex, appearing on the Gok Wan show and some music videos for Eulogy Media. I have

enjoyed opportunities shooting overseas, including Australia and Spain. My favourite shoot involved being a Christmas elf for a fancy dress shop.

Professional goals for 2017:

I hope to produce some stunning images, something different to what I’ve done before. It’s always nice to have my images used by clothing companies, make-up artists and studios. In an ideal world I’d like to be asked to work on something that involved frequent international travel and squillions of dollars. But I’d be happy to meet some more talented photographers and work in some great locations.

If you weren't a model what would I be?

I actually only work as a model part time. In everyday life I’m a nurse in a busy Accident and Emergency department in central London.

What is your opinion on current industry?

I like the move away from large campaigns by established companies to bloggers and independent models using social media having some sway over the consumer. I think it is a positive step away from size zero models and unhealthy attitudes about what constitutes being attractive. Increasingly fitness and health seem to be selling and some brands are embracing plus size models and sports personalities to promote their company.

 What’s next for you?

I’m currently working to establish myself in France, but I’ll be still be visiting the UK to work on ongoing projects. I’ll next be appearing in another music video for Eulogy Media, and I’m also considering an offer for some work as an extra.
