5 Badass Internet Women You Need in Your Life

July 31, 2017

The internet has been an amazing platform for woman to talk about feminism, sexism and all things in between. The women that I am going to mention here all have a big personality and they’re not afraid to show who they are. Using their platforms they also confront life’s difficulties but then rising above the stress and continuing to go forward in their lives. They show that woman are valuable beings, and that they should be equal to men. That they should be allowed to be in power. That they should have the same pay as men. And they should be able to pass the street without getting wolf whistled because they are much more than a beautiful body to be worshipped on by men. These women will inspire you to continue with life, even when it’s hard, and maybe even aspire you to start achieving some of those goals that you are too afraid to achieve.

Zoella

If you’ve been around the Youtube block at all, then you probably won’t need no introduction to this woman. Just in case though, Zoella started her blog back in 2009, and since then she has gone from being a blogger, to being a Youtuber/vlogger, business woman owning both a beauty and life style brand, as well the author of a 3 book series, Girl Online, which is about a teenage girl who starts an anonymous blog where she can talk about her anxiety. She is one of the most successful people in the internet, she now owns a beautiful house in Brighton, a beautiful dog and is in a long-term relationship with fellow youtuber, Alfie Deyes (Pointless Blog). Her tremendous success, as well as her battling her anxiety while having thousands of loyal followers is why she made this list. Unlike a lot of people who find success, she’s still incredibly down to earth and uses her voice for good. For example, in 2014 she became a digital ambassador for the mental health charity, Mind. If you are ever in a down mood I honestly recommend binge watching some of her main channel videos because her cute and quirky personality will not fail to make you smile. She even has some videos where she offers advice on how to unwind and how to deal with anxiety.

Louise Pentland

If I’m mentioning Zoella on this list I can’t not mention Louise Pentland. The two became best friends after Louise messaged Zoella saying how much she loved her blog and if she could send her a card, which is such a sweet thing to do. That describes her personality well, sweet, funny and lively. Louise also has an amazingly successful career. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, her career first started out by working in coffee shops as well as undertaking temp positions, however. She began to read blogs around 2010 and thought that she might start one just for the fun of it. Sprinkle of Glitter is now a beauty and mummy blog/youtube channel which has a following of thousands. Because of this she has been able to create a plus size clothing line, become a UN ambassador and most recently, released a book called Wilde Like Me, of which her boisterous heroin earned her a place on the Number One best sellers list. She manages all of this will being a single mum to her beautiful child, Darcy. On her channel she’s not afraid to show life’s difficulties, and we’ve seen her at her worst, but that’s what makes her so strong. If you’re a mum and you need a little pick me up, let Louise Pentland give a little Sprinkle of Glitter into your life.

Hannah Witton

Hannah Witton has built her own business from the ground up. Starting her Youtube channel while she was studying History at the University of Manchester, Hannah has used her channel to speak about sex positive topics. She often does ads for apps or charities that give young people a place to go if they need information on things to do with sex and mental health. One of my favourite videos that she has done that has really helped me out a lot was in partnership with Lloyd's Pharmacy. The video gave young woman information about emergency contraception, what it was, how effective it is and how you can get it. The pharmacy gives girls the opportunity to get the emergency contraception quick and easy for cheap without the embarrassment of having to go to the doctors and explain your situation. She also has a series called Drunk Advice where she gets a friend onto a channel, they get drunk or in the spirit of drunk if her friend does not drink, and answers questions from Twitter in the form of really bad advice. Hannah’s channel is the sort of place you go to if you really need help from a friend. She makes you feel normal, she’s also very educational and funny so you’ll learn something new from her channel. She’s made the list because she encourages positive sex talk amongst young people which will hopefully be passed on to a future generation where sex is not a taboo.

Melanie Murphy

Irish Youtuber, Melanie Murphy, joined Youtube in 2013 and since then has seen her loyal fan base grow into a loving community where people can talk calmly, and openly about body confidence, mental health and LGBT. One of Melanie’s main topics on her channel is her being openly Bi-sexual. She has made animated videos in partnerships with other Youtube channels about her experience of coming out, and it has led to so many other people in the community being able to come out because they don’t feel so out of place. Not only has Melanie’s encouragement of body confidence and open talk about eating disorders/mental health problems landed her a spot as a badass woman on this list, but her PMS party videos are an even bigger reason for being so. The reason is that she’s been very blunt about a topic that is one of the most taboo and shameful topics surrounding women’s health. Again, with her channel she gives young people a save community to talk about things that we are too embarrassed to talk about in public environments. It’s good because it makes women feel that they are not crazy for being super emotional during their periods, or their not weird for certain types of period control people use. Again, she’s sort of like a big sister figure for young girls and it’s great that girls have these role models to look up too.

Rock n’ Roll Bride

Kat from Rock n Roll bride is my newest discovery on the internet on this list. I discovered her through Youtuber Helen Anderson’s channel as she featured a lot on her blog. Helen was having an alternative style wedding and had help from Kat who appeared on one of her videos and from their I decided to see what Helen had been banging on about for so long. The first thing to note is that Kat’s website, looks stunning. The pictures, the graphic design, the layout, everything about it is perfectly detailed. On her website, she documents alternative wedding conventions and real weddings. While I love reading the deliciously detailed subscriptions, I love the pictures the most because of how different but cool the weddings are. One of my favourite weddings which has recently featured on her blog so far is a pinup themed wedding. As you can imagine the bride and her bridesmaid looked stunning, like they’re straight out of the 1950s! Now as with every other girl on this list, they are here for a reason, and the reason for Kat’s spot is that she did everything by herself and a small team for so long. She was also doing Rock n’ Roll bride, her blog and monthly magazine whilst also working a 9-5 job, meaning that she worked late in the evening too. She also developed everything in the ground up, and showed that she was a savvy business woman which now shows in her glossy blog and magazine.
